In completion of the Mae Hong Son loop, we returned to Chiang Mai in a refreshingly comfortable AC bus. One last northern adventure awaited us here, where we booked a day of mountain biking, elephant riding, and white river rafting!
As you can see we have no pictures of the "mountain biking", if you can call it that. There was nothing mountain or trail about it. Instead we got to ride up a road on a barely functioning bike (neither gear shifter nor shocks working) to the elephant camp.
Elephant we got to ride on! We went on a path that was hardly wider than a regular hiking trail, very surprising the elephant maneuvered it like a pro.
View from our seat. The ride wasn't the smoothest from it so Kaitlin opted to sit on shoulders like the handlers themselves.
Yay baby elephant! He followed his mama when she was giving the guests a ride.
Intro to the white water rafting. This was the best part of the day!
Some the smaller rapids. Ahh! We got to do up to class 3 on the trip.
Good finale! The only picture of Nick was tainted with water droplets on the lense (not shown here); it was a wet and wild ride!
Yes, we squeezed between them tight rocksss
And saw some washing elephants on the way!
Ah, and on our last night in the northern colossus, we were pleased to find Ronald McDonald in the welcoming wai pose. Saw-wa-dee krap!!
And thus did we leave Chiang Mai a second time, as wet tears did gush from our eyes. It is to the beaches for us, for the Gulf of Thailand beckons.
